Jane Choi has expertise in conducting educational evaluations, systematic reviews, and data collection. Her research focuses on education and family support topics.
Choi has conducted experimental and quasi-experimental education research for a number of studies, such as the EL Education Investing in Innovation (i3) evaluation, a nationwide cluster randomized evaluation of English language arts professional learning and curriculum for middle grades students. Additionally, she applies her methodological expertise to review education studies as a certified reviewer for the What Works Clearinghouse. Choi is also a technical reviewer for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Clearinghouse for Labor Evaluation and Research and provides evaluation technical assistance to grantees of the Administration for Children and Families that are developing and rigorously evaluating healthy marriage and responsible fatherhood programs.
Choi also demonstrates expertise in leading high quality data collection efforts through surveys, observations, interviews, and focus groups. She has developed instruments and led site visit data collection for the school turnaround efforts in Atlanta Public Schools, and is the survey director for the study of the Non-Cognitive Skills Assessments and Academic Records in Chicago Public Schools.
Choi holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Santa Barbara with emphases in applied linguistics, ethnography, and sociocultural perspectives of education. Her work has been published in the Journal of Early Childhood Education and the Journal of New Approaches in Educational Research. She is a member of the American Educational Research Association and the Association for Asian American Studies.
